Robyn Lyn EvansWyn Pencarreg and Philip Smith perform in Welsh National Opera’s production of Roberto Devereux, directed by Alessandro Talevi and conducted by Carlo Rizzi and James Southall.

Robyn performs Lord Cecil, while understudying the title role, Wyn performs Sir Gualtiero Raleigh, and Philip makes his WNO debut as Nottingham’s Confidant, while understudying Raleigh.

Performances take place from 28 February at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, before touring until 10 May.

Jeni Bern makes a long awaited return to Scottish Opera, as Professor Prentice in the world premiere of Anthropocene by Stuart MacRae. The production is directed by Matthew Richardson and conducted by Stuart Stratford.

Performances take place from 24 January in Glasgow, with further performances in Edinburgh and London, at the Hackney Empire.

Jeni returns to Scottish Opera later this season as First Lady in Sir Thomas Allen’s production of The Magic Flute.

Nazan Fikret sings Fiordiligi on a newly released recording of Così fan tutte released by Rubicon Classics. The recording from a production by the European Opera Centre, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, is conducted by Laurent Pillot.

Philip Sheffield makes his debut with the Oper Köln as Rev. Horace Adams in a new production of Peter Grimes, directed by Frederic Wake-Walker, and conducted by Nicholas Collon.

The premiere takes place on 25 November, with futher performances on 28, 30 November, 2, 6, 8 December.

This is Philip’s third house debut and second new production of Peter Grimes this year!

Following acclaimed performances in Madama Butterfly, Linda Richardson returns to Welsh National Opera this autumn as Violetta in their classic production of La traviata. The original production is directed by Sir David McVicar (revived by Sarah Crisp) and conducted by James Southall.

Performances take place from 21 September until the end of November, opening in Cardiff before touring.

We are delighted to announce that bass Trevor Eliot Bowes has joined our roster. Trevor was born in Victoria, Canada and studied at the University of Toronto, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He is currently one of Barbara Hannigan’s Equilibrium Young Artists.

In recent seasons appearances include house debuts as José Castro La fanciulla del West and Policeman Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk for English National Opera, Silvano Un ballo in maschera for Grange Park Opera, and Der Lakai Ariadne auf Naxos for Opera Holland Park, and Boots and Footman Der Rosenkavalier for Glyndebourne.

Future plans include Ben Benny Paul Bunyan and A Cappadocian Salome for English National Opera, and Father Trulove The Rake’s Progress with the Münchner Philharmoniker, conducted by Barbara Hannigan.

Philip Sheffield makes his debut at the Teatro La Fenice as Edward IV in Giorgio Battistelli’s Richard III. The production originates from Opera Vlaanderen where Philip created the role in 2005 and was subsequently performed in Strasbourg. Robert Carsen returns to direct and Tito Ceccherini conducts.

Next season Philip makes his debut at the Opera Koln as Rev. Adams in Peter Grimes.

Performances take place on 29 June, 1, 3, 5, 7 July. The performance on 3 July will be broadcast live on World Concert Hall.

We are delighted to announce that soprano Camilla Roberts has joined our roster for general management. Born in Wrexham, North Wales, Camilla studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio sponsored by Welsh National Opera, with whom she subsequently she became an associate artist. In 2005 she represented Wales at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.

Recent highlights include Santuzza Cavalleria rusticana and First Lady The Magic Flute for Welsh National Opera, Donna Anna Don Giovanni and Andromache King Priam for English Touring Opera. She has also recently understudied Meni The Exterminating Angel (The Royal Opera) and Isolde La Vin herbé (Welsh National Opera).

In the current season she performs Donna Elvira Don Giovanni for Welsh National Opera and understudies the title role in Vanessa for Glyndebourne.
