British mezzo soprano Bethan Langford is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the National Opera Studio, and is a former Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera. She is a Yeoman of the Musicians’ Company, a Samling Artist, a core member of Paraorchestra, and an alumna of the Verbier Festival Academy.
Opera highlights include Hebe HMS Pinafore, Edith The Pirates of Penzance, Leila Iolanthe (English National Opera); Maria Theresia von Paradis in the world premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s The Paradis Files at Queen Elizabeth Hall and on tour (Graeae Theatre Company); Second Lady The Magic Flute, Glasha Káťa Kabanová (Scottish Opera); Dritte Magd Elektra under Esa-Pekka Salonen (Verbier Festival); Janitor The Lost Thing (Royal Ballet & Opera, Linbury Theatre); Marie / Angel II in George Benjamin’s Written on Skin (Melos Sinfonia tour incl. The Mariinsky Theatre); Dorabella Così fan tutte (Bury Court Opera); Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia (GSMD Opera, Grimeborn); Prince Orlofsky Die Fledermaus (Clonter Opera); Olga Eugene Onegin (Cambridge Philharmonic); The Woman in Daniel Saleeb’s The Promise (Milton Keynes International Festival); and Noble Orphan Der Rosenkavalier (Glyndebourne, BBC Proms).
Concert highlights include Smyth Mass in D under Sakari Oramo (BBC Proms); Mozart Requiem (The Hallé); Handel Messiah (Orquesta Ciudad de Granada); De Falla El amor brujo (Orchestra of Scottish Opera); Stravinsky Les Noces (Opera Holland Park and New Movement Collective); and Mahler Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen under Charles Hazlewood at Bristol Beacon (Paraorchestra).
In recital Bethan has appeared at Wigmore Hall, Heidelberger Frühling, Buxton International Festival, Garsington Studios, International Lied Festival Zeist and Oxford International Song Festival. She is a founding member of Schubert & Co, Oxford Songs’ resident lieder ensemble.
Outside her singing engagements, Bethan is a passionate advocate of disabled arts. She is a panellist for the RNIB’s Elizabeth Eagle-Bott Award, a reporter for BBC Radio 4’s In Tune programme, and Creative Advisor for the Inclusive Sport & Culture Festival, taking place in Liverpool during summer 2027.
