Delighted to announce three of our artists will appear in Opera North’s 2025/26 season.
Following acclaimed performances as Queen of the Night this season, Nazan Fikret returns to Opera North as First Niece in Phyllida Lloyd’s production of Peter Grimes. Additonally, Binny-Supin Yang joins Opera North covering this role.
Making his company debut Mark Nathan joins the Opera North Youth Chorus and Youth Orchestra as Count Heinrich in Judith Weir’s historical comic thriller, The Secret of the Black Spider. Following that he returns as The Banana in David Fennessy’s Pass the Spoon, a sort-of opera about cookery – a darkly comic feast of words, music and puppetry, made with decidedly adult ingredients. Mark will then understudy the role of Ned Keene in Peter Grimes.
Making her company debut Lauren Young is the mezzo soloist in The Big Opera Mystery – a family show and musical extravaganza where some of the suspects are some of the greatest opera characters of all time.
Nazan Fikret will make her Polish debut at the opera house in Poznań as Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, with performances in April 2025.
These performances will follow her Opera North debut in the same role.

Nazan Fikret will make her debut at Opera North next season as Queen of the Night in James Brining’s production of The Magic Flute, with performances in February (Leeds) and March (Hull).
She last performed the role at Glyndebourne in 2020, where she was lauded with praise by the critics.

Trevor Eliot Bowes performs Seneca in a new production of The Coronation of Poppea, directed by Robin Norton-Hale and conducted by Yshani Perinpanayagam. Trevor’s ETO debut was in spring 2022 in La bohème.
Following acclaimed performances in Handel’s Ottone, Nazan Fikret returns to ETO as Clorinda in a new production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola, directed by Jenny Ogilvie Furness and conducted by Naomie Woo.
Both Nazan and Trevor will perform in ETO’s spring 2024 production of The Rake’s Progress.
AbracadOpera! produced by English National Opera and Somethin’ Else TV Studio is designed to introduce young viewers to opera for the first time, this comedy-musical-drama unfolds as an epic adventure and features Nazan Fikret as Mozart’s Queen of the Night.
The show has been created as part of the nationwide learning programme Access All Arts Week, which provides free resources for teachers to take their classes on a week-long creative adventure.
Available from 10 June on Sky Kids and on the Sky Arts channel at 10am on 11 June.
Nazan Fikret will make her debut with Welsh National Opera next season as First Lady in a new production of The Magic Flute, directed by Daisy Evans.
After opening in Cardiff the production will tour through to the end of May for a total of 25 performances.
Nazan was to have performed Fiordiligi for WNO in the summer of 2020, but the production was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nazan Fikret is the soprano soloist in Our Dark Side and the Moon: a night time duet, part of 8bit for the Royal Opera.

This afternoon Nazan Fikret and pianist Rebecca Cohen will perform a world premiere, commissiond by the BBC on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ drivetime show, hosted by Sean Rafferty.
The new work Plango: A Cure Lament, written by film composer, vocalist and educator Ella Jarman-Pinto to a text by the poet Jo Brandon, explores the emotional impact of the pandemic on women and looks at finding comfort and empowerment in expression.
Nazan Fikret is delighted to be returning to Glyndebourne this autumn for semi-staged performances as The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. This new socially distanced production is directed by Donna Stirrup and conducted by Leo McFall, with the Glyndebourne Touring Orchestra and Chorus.
A limited number of tickets are available for a socially distanced audience, with performances taking place from 1 to 21 November 2020.

We are delighted that Nazan Fikret will perform The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte for Garsington Opera. Nazan made her debut at Garsington in 2012 as an Alvarez Young Artist as Ninetta in La Périchole.
Nazan performs the role on 22 June and for a schools performance on 18 July.
Nazan Fikret perform’s Arasse in Hasse’s opera seria, Siroe, re di Persia, for the Nederlandse Reisopera. The production, directed by Jakob Peters-Messer and conducted by George Petrou, is a co-production with the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater.
The premiere takes place on 26 January at the Wilminktheater in Enschede before touring The Netherlands hrough February.
Nazan last performed for the Reisopera as Flora The Turn of the Screw in 2006.
In the wake of the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower, Nazan Fikret, with support and generous assistance from Cadogan Hall, the Royal Opera House, Garsington Opera, Opera Magazine, the International Opera Awards and leading arts professionals, has rallied fellow performers to organise a concert to raise funds for those affected.
The concert on at Cadogan Hall on 17 September, presented by Petroc Trelawny, will feature a sensational line-up of both established and up-and-coming artists. This is a one-off event and everyone involved has given their services for free.
All funds raised will be distributed equally between Rugby Portobello Trust (Charity No 1100143) and Grief Encounter (Charity No 1101277) which focus specifically on helping the affected families with rehabilitation and looking to the future.
