Mark Nathan performs Schaunard in a film version of La bohème, written and directed by Olivier Award-winner, Robin Norton-Hale.
Produced for the screen by Finite Films & TV, this adaptation of Puccini’s much loved classic originated with OperaUpClose, whose acclaimed stage production won Best New Opera Production at the 2011 Olivier Awards.
The film will be shown in selected cinemas from 3 March 2026.

Stuart Maunder’s production featured in Scottish Opera’s 2021/22 season and is conducted by Derek Clark.
Mark Nathan sings Mr Goldbury on Scottish Opera’s new recording of Gilbert and Sullivan’s peniultimate opera, Utopia, Limited. This revised version with updated libretto by director Stuart Maunder and a revised musical version by Scottish Opera’s former Head of Music Derek Clark, was recorded following performances in the 2021/22 season.
The recording will be released by Opus Arte on 27 June 2025 and will be available from retailers including Presto Music, Europadisc, Naxos Direct and Amazon, as well as on the usual streaming platforms.
Delighted to announce three of our artists will appear in Opera North’s 2025/26 season.
Following acclaimed performances as Queen of the Night this season, Nazan Fikret returns to Opera North as First Niece in Phyllida Lloyd’s production of Peter Grimes. Additonally, Binny-Supin Yang joins Opera North covering this role.
Making his company debut Mark Nathan joins the Opera North Youth Chorus and Youth Orchestra as Count Heinrich in Judith Weir’s historical comic thriller, The Secret of the Black Spider. Following that he returns as The Banana in David Fennessy’s Pass the Spoon, a sort-of opera about cookery – a darkly comic feast of words, music and puppetry, made with decidedly adult ingredients. Mark will then understudy the role of Ned Keene in Peter Grimes.
Making her company debut Lauren Young is the mezzo soloist in The Big Opera Mystery – a family show and musical extravaganza where some of the suspects are some of the greatest opera characters of all time.
Following hugely successful performances in 2021, the Scottish Opera production of The Gondoliers with Mark Nathan as Guiseppe will be available to watch worldwide on OperaVision for 3 months from 4 May 2024. This will be the first time the streaming platform has presented a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.

Mark Nathan returns as Wagner in a new production of Gounod’s Faust, directed by Jack Furness and conducted by Elaine Kelly.
Wyn Pencarreg returns as First Nazarene in a new production of Strauss’ Salome, directed by Bruno Ravella and conducted by Fergus Sheil.
We are delighted that baritone Mark Nathan has joined our artist roster for general management. Mark is a graduate Royal College of Music and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and a recent alumnus of the Emerging Artist Programme at Scottish Opera.
Recent highlights include his mainstage debut with Scottish Opera as Giuseppe The Gondoliers and Mr Goldbury Utopia Ltd; Hunter Rusalka, Guglielmo (OperaFirst) Così fan tutte and Herr von Faninal (cover) Der Rosenkavalier (Garsington Opera).
In the current season Mark made his debut with Welsh National Opera and Schaunard La bohème and later this season returns as Maximillian in a new production of Candide. Other appearances this season include Notary Der Rosenkavalier for Irish National Opera; and Le Dancaïre Carmen for Waterperry Opera Festival.
